TARQUINIA
The centre of Southern Etruria, the
etruscan capital, a medeival city, an international archeological site
with a very intense cultural life. The city of Tarquinia high on a mount,
has beautiful panoramic vew at 133 mt above sea level, looking on to the
valley of the River Marta and the Tyrrhenian sea.
Its
geographical position lends itself to tourism, where the visitor can enjoy
the important traditions covering 3000 years of history, numerous precious
archeological and medeival artifacts and various other natural
characteristics: the sea coast near, the Maremma countryside, near to Mount
Tolfa and Cimina, you can also see the sea at Argentario and the Giglio
Island.
The
tourist can appreciate the numerous etruscan antiques visiting the
aristocratic Vitelleschi Palace, a fabulous gothic renaissance structure
which has become a National Museum. The Etruscan necropoli, just outside the
town is full of the most beautifully painted and best preserved tombs in the
whole world, which tell the story and culture of a fascinating and enigmatic
