LAGO DI BOLSENA - Isola Bisentina
The antique ‘volsiniensus lactus’ is the
biggest volcanic lake in Italy, which a perimiter of 43 km, around the
lake there are many small villages which make up this panoramic ring of
rare beauty e.g. Bolsena, Capodimonte, Marta, Montefiascone. On this
lake 146 mt deep imerge two islands, the Bisentina and the Martana where
the queen of the Ostrogoti Amalasunta was executed.
La Bisentina, rich of beautiful sights,
houses the tombs of some of the Farnese family. The renaissance church of
some of the SS Giroiani e Cristoforo has a magnificent Italian garden and
seven renaissance chapels along a pothway which leads to the peak of the
mountain, Mount Tabor. The island is reachable by boat leaving the port of
Bolsena. |
